Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: The ability to feel what others are feeling and the action of trying to help them with their troubles. In short: Feel what others feel. Summary: A shy boy named Brian feels like he’s “invisible” because no one seems to notice him at school. One day, a new boy named Justin joins the class. Brian and Justin begin a friendship and this changes everything. Brian happily concludes that maybe he’s not “invisible” anymore and he has a new friend! Lesson Objectives:

Students demonstrate a greater awareness of their classmates, and are more likely to reach out to their peers who are shy or unpopular.

Guiding Questions:

Why does Brian say he feels like he’s invisible?
Why do Nathan and Sophie attract a lot of the teacher’s attention?
When kids are choosing teams, why do you think Brian gets left out?
How does Brian feel when at the lunch table everyone talks about a party that he wasn’t invited to?
When all the other kids are busy playing with each other, what does Brian do?
Why do you think Brian reaches out to the new kid, Justin?
Did you feel sorry for Brian when the other students ignored him?
Imagine there is someone like Brian in your class at school. What could you do to help him feel less invisible? If you know someone like that, do something to help them.

What do you think is worse, being laughed at or feeling invisible and why?
