Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: The ability to feel what others are feeling and the action of trying to help them with their troubles.  In short:  Feel what others feel. Summary: Rubina, a Pakistani girl, is excited about an invitation to a birthday party until her sister Sana demands to attend with her. Rubina insists that her little sister will cause problems, and she’s worried that she will never be invited to another party. Nonetheless, Sana tags along, and her immature behavior embarrasses Rubina. Not only that, Sana takes party favors from Rubina and eats her big, red lollipop. Eventually, the sisters resolve their conflict and become friends when Rubina compassionately intervenes on Sana’s behalf.   Lesson Objectives: 
  1. Students are motivated to be more understanding instead of reacting when someone behaves immaturely, especially when it’s a younger sibling. 
  Guiding Questions: 
  1. Rubina is excited when she receives an invitation to a birthday party, until…(Fill in the blank)
  2. When Rubina’s mother didn’t know what a birthday party is, did that surprise you? Why do you think she didn’t know? 
  3. Rubina had to take Sana with her or else she couldn’t go to the party. Do you think that was fair or not? 
  4. Why do you think Rubina’s mom told her not to get upset when her sister took her lollipop? 
  5. Do you think both Rubina and Sana learned something in this story? What did each of them learn?  
  6. How did Rubina show compassion toward her little sister? 
  7. When you have a birthday do you have a party? Who celebrates with you? 
  8. Do you have any younger siblings or cousins in your family? If so, how do you get along? If not, do you wish you had a younger sibling? 
  9. What do you do when someone’s behavior bothers you? 
  10. Think of someone who bothers you. How could you ask them nicely to change their behavior? Ask a parent or teacher for tips.
