Definition : Service is doing something nice or helpful for someone else. Summary: Rosie is inspired when she reads about the importance of doing good deeds. She focuses her actions on helping people in her neighborhood, which is great, except that she forgets to respond to “asks” from her family members. When she finally realizes she had been ignoring her parents, grandmother, brother, and dog, Rosie begins “Operation Family” and starts to help out at home.    Lesson Objective: 
  1. Students talk about what they can do at home to serve their families. They come up with ideas for acts of kindness for their family members. 
  Guiding Questions: 
  1. What inspires Rosie to start doing good deeds? 
  2. As Rosie starts doing good deeds, her mom asks for her help. Does Rosie help her mom? 
  3. Rosie’s brother Simon asks for her help. What does she do instead? 
  4. Rosie’s Dad invites her to visit her grandma with her. What does Rosie do? 
  5. Operation Pamper Pet is Rosie’s idea for helping animals. Does she help with her pets at home? Why or why not? 
  6. Rosie helps Mrs. Albert’s baby, and the mom is very grateful for her help. When Mrs. Albert says, “I bet you’re a huge help at home” what does Rosie realize? 
  7. How does Rosie take care of her family? 
  8. Do you think most kids your age help their families? What do you think they do to help? 
  9. Do your parents and siblings ask you to help them? What do they ask you to do? Do you help them? 
  10. Do you think Rosie felt good about helping her family? Do you feel good when you help at home?
