Definition : Service is doing something nice or helpful for someone else. Summary: A duck gets lost and a monkey says “I can help. The clever super-climber monkey shows the duck the way out of the tall grass. Next is the monkey’s turn to need help. He can’t get down from a tall tree. Who comes to the rescue? Of course it’s the giraffe with a very long neck! Each new page illustrates an example of an animal needing help and another animal that has just what it takes to perform a rescue. Who knows, maybe the reader can find someone who needs their special kind of help!    Lesson Objectives: 
  1. Students think about something special they could do to help others. 
  Guiding Questions: 
  1.  Why did the duck need help and who helped him? How did he help him? 
  2. Why did the monkey need help and what did his helper do for him? 
  3. What kind of help did the giraffe need and why was the gorilla just the right animal to help him? 
  4. What did the sunbird do for the gorilla?  
  5. What animal helped with sunbird and how did it help? 
  6. When the elephant was hot and thirsty, who helped him and what did it do for him? 
  7. Were you surprised about the ending of the story? Did it seem like it started all over again? 
  8. Who  helped you today? 
  9. Who did you help today? 
  10. Good friends help each other. How do your friends help you and how do you help them?
