Definition: to be amazed at and/or curious about something that is pleasantly unexpected, beautiful, or mysterious. In short: Curiosity sparks endless discovery. Summary: Louis Armstrong sings his famous song, “What A Wonderful World” in this video version of this children’s book. The attractive illustrations match the lyrics and make the words come even more alive. When they wrote this song, writers captured the experience many of us have when we take time to think about all the beautiful aspects of our lives: “red roses that bloom for me and you,” “skies of blue”, “clouds of white” make a wonderful world, all telling us, “I love you.” Lesson Objectives:

Students will demonstrate more awareness of and appreciation for the ordinary gifts we receive every day.
Teachers can lead discussions about the gifts mentioned in the song, and other gifts we might take for granted. Children can learn the lyrics and sing or dance along.

Have you ever heard this famous song before?
Would you like to learn how to sing it? Is there someone who can help you learn the lyrics and the melody?
When you look at red roses, do they make you happy? Do you like how they smell?
When you look at the sky in the daytime, do you ever wish you could float up into it in a balloon? If you’ve been on an airplane, what does the sky look like from that high?
Do you ever look at clouds and imagine shapes of animals? If you haven’t, try it with a friend or family member.
Have you ever seen a rainbow? Draw one that has all the colors we see in rainbows.
Do you like being around friendly, happy people? Do you try to make others happy?
The word “wonderful” means “full of wonder” - it refers to something that is so amazing that it makes you really happy. Can you name three things, people, or places that are wonderful for you?
Is there an illustration in this book that you especially like? Describe what you see and why you like it.
Ask a parent or grandparent what they think is wonderful in our world.
