Before, During & After Reading

Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: A friend is someone you like spending time with because they make you feel happy and special, and help you when you need it.  In short: Build bonds that last forever. Summary: Two trucks, Mack and Rig, experience their first day at truck school. The school day begins with the teacher directing the class to perform different tasks. Mack is often best at all the drills, much better than Rig, and this causes conflict. Eventually, they realize they need each other and their friendship is renewed when the tables are turned and Rig helps Mack accomplish a difficult drill.    Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students will talk about what they think they can do well, and what is difficult, thus gaining more awareness of how we all need each other.
  Guiding Questions:
  1. How do you think Rig felt going into school on the first day?
  2. What color is Rig? What color is Mac?
  3. Which truck did best on the track?
  4. Which truck did better on the hill?
  5. Do you think Mac bragged too much?
  6. Why did the two trucks argue?
  7. What did Rig do to help Mac and how did that help them to become friends again?
  8. Do you and your friends help each other? What do you do for each other?
  9. Does it make you feel bad when someone brags about how food they are at something? (like Mac did in the story)
  10. What are some things that you are good at? What are some things that are difficult for you?

🌿   Virtue Connection: Friendship means showing up for someone else, consistently.
