Summary: When Heather was a little girl she’d walk out the door with her flashlight, and visit a magical place called “Wonder Rock,” hoping she’d have a special adventure there. One day, her wish is granted when a space ship lands and a friendly alien appears. Heather and the alien become pals, share pictures about their planetary homes, and leave together on the spaceship. Eventually, she decides to return home because she realizes that her family misses her. As a grownup, she goes back to “Wonder Rock” hoping to reencounter her alien friend and the spaceship. Eventually her wish is granted - Heather, now an old woman, leaves her planet once again, only to discover that she misses her family and her true home on earth. Lesson Objectives:

Students are introduced to the phrase, “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” They discuss this as a theme of “Wonder Rock”, especially how Heather finally realizes how special her life is on earth because of the love she shares with her family.
