Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: Showing respect means to use words and actions that show we care about all people and things. In short: Value others, honor differences. Summary: “This is what I would want someone to do for me” is the message of this story. When we see something that makes us think about how we would want to be treated, we act with kindness, because that’s the way we’d like to be treated.” Lesson Objectives:

Students are guided to review the ways to practice kindness that are mentioned in the book. They practice saying, “this is what I would want someone to do for me.” and “ I will treat others the way I want to be treated.”

Guiding Questions:

What does the word “kindness” mean to you? Can you give some examples of being kind?
What does the title “Kindness Starts with You mean”?
Why is it important to say “please” and “thank you” when someone does something for you?
What does “this is what I want someone to do for me” mean?
What can you do if you see someone being left out at school?
How do you feel when someone says something nice about you?
What could you do if someone gets hurt on the playground?
Why is it good to take turns?
If you hurt someone or harm something that belongs to them, what can you do to show them that you’re sorry?
Think of something kind you can do right now and do it!
