Definition: A friend is someone you like spending time with because they make you feel happy and special, and help you when you need it. In short: Build bonds that last forever. Summary: “There is no peace because of your endless bickering” complains a toad to three frogs who can’t seem to get along. One day something very scary happens. A vicious storm batters and swallows up the island they live on. All three are stuck on a “rock” in a very precarious situation. The frogs face their predicament together (thanks to the toad), and that’s when they discover that they can get along after all. Everything gets better after that - the island recovers and the frogs enjoy a friendship they had never imagined! Lesson Objectives:

Students gain more confidence to work on their relationships with peers and family members when difficulties arise.
Teachers guide students to think about and apply strategies to prevent arguments and resolve conflicts.

Guiding Questions:

Why did the frogs argue so much?
What did the toad say to the frogs?
What could the frogs have done in the beginning of the story that would have helped them get along better?
What happened that made the island disappear?
The frogs were stuck on a rock (the turtle) - and “they felt better now that they were together, sharing the same fears and hopes.” Why do you think this situation helped them become friends?
The toad saved the frogs even though he was upset with the frogs. Why do you think he did that?
How did the frogs feel about each other after they faced danger together and why did they change?
Do you have a classmate or family member with whom you don’t get along? Brainstorm with someone you trust and find a way to improve your relationship.
Have you ever helped someone that you didn’t really like? If so, how did that feel? If that hasn’t happened, do you think you would help someone you don’t like? Why or why not?
Why do you think the frogs were able to become friends after facing danger together? Has something like that ever happened to you, when you became friends with someone when you both faced the same challenge?
