Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: Integrity means being honest, and responsible and respectful all the time, whether or not people can see what you’re doing.  In short: Do the right thing, even when no one's looking.     Summary: The narrator is a girl who shares about how she decides on the choices she makes. Her goal is always to “stand tall” which means to think about what’s important to her, then plan what she needs to do to make it happen and do it. She “feels peaceful and strong when she makes good choices and doesn’t give up.” Her story is full of great ideas about how to be a person of integrity.    Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students learn some ideas about how to behave in a way that will help them make and keep friends and feel good about themselves.
  Guiding Questions:
  1. Would you like the girl in the story to be your friend? Why or why not?
  2. She thinks about what to do first, then decides and does it because she wants to do the right thing. Do you stop and ask yourself if what you want to do is the right thing to do?
  3. If you don’t know what the right thing is, do you ask someone like a parent or a teacher?
  4. Has someone ever tried to get you to do something that isn’t right? Did you do it or did you do what you thought was right?
  5. If someone asks you for help, do you say yes?  Can you share about a time when you said yes and helped someone?
  6. Do you think what you do matters and that you are important? Ask a parent or teacher to tell you why you are important and why what you do matters.
  7. Do you try to act the way you want people to treat you?
  8. How do you want people to treat you at home? How do you want your classmates to treat you?
  9. The girl in the story says it’s always good to be kind. What are some kind things you could say to someone who’s having a hard day?
  10. When you forget to be kind, what can you do to make up for it?
