Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: doing what needs to be done without complaining. In short: Do what needs to be done.

Summary: A good community is one in which its members take responsibility to pitch in and help keep it safe, clean, and attractive. Libraries, local events, gardens, sports, community workers all contribute to the kind of place where people enjoy living together. Lesson Objectives:

Students learn about what it takes to build a good community, and they begin to talk about and look for ways to contribute in their classroom and neighborhood.

Guiding Questions:

What is this story about?
Do you play in a park in your neighborhood?
Can you describe what a community is?
Have you ever been to a yard sale? What was it like?
Have you ever donated something? If so, what is it?
Where is your favorite place to go in your community?
Have you ever helped to make your community look nice and clean? What did you do?
If you could paint a mural for your community, what would you like to paint? Make a sketch of what you’d like to paint.
Do you go to your local library? Can you get a library card if you don’t already have one? Ask an adult to help you.
Have you ever been to the police station, met a police officer? Have you been to the local fire station and met the workers there?
