  1. Students begin learning about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This book can be an introduction to a history lesson about his dream and his peaceful methods of working toward solutions. 
  Guiding Questions: 
  1. What do you already know about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?
  2. What did he believe about books and words? 
  3. Dr. King was protesting in the 1960s against the rule about where people could sit on the bus. Do you know what that unfair rule was? 
  4. The book shows a picture of a big crowd in Washington DC. Do you know why they came together? 
  5.  Dr. King invites you to dream with him. What is his dream? 
  6. What do you think he means when he says “we’re all sisters and brothers.”
  7. The dream is to reach the Promised Land. What do you think that is? 
  8. Dr. King says: “Be brave young dreamer!” What did he do that was brave? What is one brave thing you’ve done? 
  9. There are a lot of people in the world who need help. Think about someone or some people who are being treated unfairly. Is there something you’d like to do to make their dreams come true? 
  10. Ask your parents or grandparents what they know about the life and work of Dr. King.
