Definition: Courage is being willing to face something hard or scary, like trying to do something you’ve never done before. In short: Do good, try hard even when it’s scary. Summary: Sometimes courage is simply taking the time to help someone in need. In this story, a boy time travels with a friendly alien named Sally who shows him the ultimate superpower - kindness! Sally helps him travel through time, and as a result he gets to comfort a sad girl that he had failed to notice the previous day. He observes how kindness grows and multiplies. By taking time to care for the girl, he makes a huge impact on her and her family. The last sentence of the book sums it up: “Keep being kind and you’ll change the whole world with the power of love!” Lesson Objectives:

Students demonstrate more courage to act with their superpower of kindness and help others in need.

To time travel means to go back in time. What day was it in the beginning of the story when Sally and the boy went to the school?
What did the boy see at the school that was sad?
What did he get to try once more?
Sally showed the boy a video (screen) - what did he see?
The boy’s kindness to the girl spread to her family. It got bigger. Can you think of one kind act you could do that will grow and grow?
Do you think it took courage for the boy to reach out to the girl and try to comfort her when no one else tried? Do you think the other kids would tease him or like him better because he helped someone?
Do you notice some kids around you who are unhappy sometimes? Is there something you could do to help them?
Why did the author of this story call kindness a superpower?
