Guiding Questions for Parents.

Definition: Someone who is grateful is thankful for people, nature, and things. Stewardship means taking good care of what we’ve been given. In short: Thankful for every blessing, big or small. Summary: Roys Bedoys celebrates a birthday, but at his party he is disappointed over and over again. He complains about everything until one of his guests tells him that he is lucky. She says that she never got a birthday party. Her comment makes him pause and think - he changes his attitude from complaining to thanking everyone for helping him celebrate his birthday.     Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students will be less prone to complaining and more willing to be grateful, as they think about those who have less than they do.
  Guiding Questions:
  1. Where did Roys want to have his birthday party?
  2. What didn’t Roys like about his birthday cake?
  3. What was Roys’s complaint about the dinosaur present?
  4. Roys is advised to “be thankful for whatever you get” when he complains about a gift he doesn’t like. Share about a time when you got something you didn’t like. If that didn’t happen to you, ask someone in your family if that ever happened to them.
  5. Share about a time when you gave something and it wasn’t appreciated. If that didn’t happen to you, ask someone in your family if that ever happened to them.
  6. Do you like to give gifts? Why or why not? Do you like to receive gifts?
  7. Why did Roys stop complaining?
  8. Do you think Roys was happier when he stopped complaining and started being grateful?
  9. When you don’t like something that someone gives you, what can you do about it?
  10. Sometimes you may be disappointed when things don’t go your way. What do you think you could do so you don’t get too upset?
